Facilities Specialist - Painter

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform interior and exterior painting at company facilities, including walls, ceilings, doors, trim, offices, common areas, residential areas, and other surfaces.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching holes, repairing minor drywall damage, caulking, priming, and completing other necessary preparation.
  • Apply paint, stain, sealant, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, sprayers, and other appropriate equipment.
  • Perform routine touch-up painting and cosmetic repairs to maintain the appearance and condition of facilities.
  • Match existing paint colors and finishes when completing repairs and touch-ups.
  • Protect floors, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and surrounding areas prior to beginning work and ensure work areas are properly cleaned upon completion.
  • Move or assist with moving furniture and equipment as necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Safely use and maintain painting tools, ladders, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of paint, materials, and supplies and communicate purchasing needs to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Estimate the materials and time needed to complete assigned projects.
  • Coordinate work with Facilities staff, program leadership, and other team members to minimize disruption to normal operations.
  • Prioritize and complete work assignments based on organizational needs, safety considerations, and established timelines.

Minimum Education and/or Experience:  Possession of high school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years experience in building maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of building maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction practices, procedures, and methods.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to effectively and safely operate a variety of power tools, construction equipment, and heavy machinery and vehicles.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
  • Ability to perform physical labor including but not limited to lifting, carrying, climbing, walking, reaching, and bending.
  • Ability to work outdoors exposed to extreme weather conditions including sun, wind, rain.
  • Ability to use care and proper protective equipment when exposed to bio-hazardous materials.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees, contractors, outside agencies, and the general public.

Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida driver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal automobile insurance if required to drive an SMA vehicle and/or use a personal vehicle for SMA business. Complete State of Florida mandatory background screening prior to start of employment.  Complete SMA required training during the first six (6) months of employment and updated if required.

Physical: Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12 hour day. Able to lift minimum 50 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record client health care needs. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, daily correspondence and presentation, either manually or orally. Work endurance ability to work 8-12 hour shifts with a meal break, as possible. Routine 8-12 hour shifts. Hours and days off may vary. Extra hours may be required. Work assignment locations may vary.
