Manager - Development

The Development Manager advances SMA Healthcare’s mission by securing and managing foundation and corporate funding and developing meaningful corporate partnerships. This position coordinates grant development, administration, and compliance; cultivates and stewards corporate partners; and works closely with the Executive Director, regional leadership, program leaders, and donor relations staff to align funding opportunities with organizational priorities and demonstrate the impact of donor support.

Grant Development, Administration, and Compliance

  • Research and identify foundation and corporate funding opportunities aligned with SMA Healthcare’s mission, programs, and strategic priorities.
  • Develop, write, and submit grant proposals, narratives, budgets, letters of interest, and required application forms in collaboration with program and finance teams.
  • Review Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) and assess eligibility, application requirements, and compliance obligations.
  • Manage post-award compliance, including expenditure tracking and financial reconciliation in coordination with finance.
  • Monitor grant implementation, deliverables, timelines, and reporting obligations; coordinate timely and accurate submissions.
  • Maintain accurate grant, donor, and corporate partner records in DonorPerfect, working closely with the donor relations and database manager.
  • Provide guidance to grantees, as applicable, and internal teams on reporting requirements and grant compliance.
  • Prepare donor communications, reports, letters of interest, and other fundraising materials that clearly communicate program needs and impact.
  • Support grant-related audits, evaluations, and risk mitigation processes; maintain complete and organized supporting documentation.

Corporate Partnerships

  • Work with the Executive Director and SMA Healthcare grants team to build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective corporate partners.
  • Redevelop the SMArt Partners Corporate Sponsorship program through a comprehensive strategy that includes sponsorship packages, campaigns, and events.
  • Cultivate strategic alliances with regional leadership, program leaders, and other SMA Healthcare stakeholders to identify partnership opportunities and align corporate support with program needs.
  • Steward existing corporate partners through impact updates, recognition opportunities, and meetings, including joint meetings with the Executive Director as appropriate.
  • Coordinate fulfillment of sponsorship commitments and recognition benefits with internal teams; track partner engagement and renewal opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience: 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, communications, public administration, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in grant writing, grant administration, fundraising, corporate partnerships, or nonprofit development preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing competitive grant proposals, monitoring grant requirements, and building donor or corporate partner relationships preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and demonstrated development expertise may be considered.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of grant development, post-award administration, donor stewardship, and corporate sponsorship practices.
  • Excellent writing, editing, research, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret funding requirements and translate program needs into compelling proposals and fundraising materials.
  • Ability to develop and review grant budgets, track expenditures, and coordinate financial reporting with finance staff.
  • Strong relationship-building, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and donor database systems; DonorPerfect experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines and funding priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, regional and program leaders, finance teams, and external partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidential donor and organizational information and exercise sound judgment.
  • Commitment to ethical fundraising practices, accountability, and accurate reporting.
  • Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida driver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal automobile insurance if required to drive an SMA vehicle and/or use a personal vehicle for SMA business. Complete State of Florida mandatory background screening prior to start of employment.  Complete SMA required training during the first six (6) months of employment and updated if required.

    Physical: Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12 hour day. Able to lift minimum 30 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record client health care needs. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, daily correspondence and presentation, either manually or orally. Work endurance ability to work 8-12 hour shifts with a meal break, as possible. Routine 8-12 hour shifts. Hours and days off may vary. Extra hours may be required. Work assignment locations may vary.
