Essential Job Functions:

  • Re-deploy staff to units as needed.
  • Respond to medical emergencies within the facility and authorize the call to EVAC or transport.
  • In limited situations, authorize additional hours (overtime).
  • Authorize Administrative Leave with Pay (pending investigations).
  • Assist in formulating staff performance evaluations.
  • Assist program staff in clinical and administrative decision-making.
  • Assesses situations and uses sound judgment in applying medical or emergency intervention techniques.
  • Handles verbal and /or physically abusive, aggressive clients, utilizing aggression control techniques to ensure the safety. 
  • Maintains a safe, therapeutic environment according to the SMABHS Safety/Risk Management Plan and agency approved crisis intervention techniques.
  • Review of Seclusion and Restraint packets/logs, daily safety rounds of all units, MAR/Chart checks to ensure compliance of standards, implements and records appropriate interventions.
  • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with clients, peers, professionals, community agencies and the general public.

Minimum Education and/or Experience: Graduate of Associate of Science in nursing degree program.  Current Florida RN license. Current CPR/First Aid Certificate.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities:

  • Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate competency in current principles and practices of health care delivery to chemically dependent adults and adults who have a mental health diagnosis. 
  • Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate competency in current computer skill.
  •  Demonstrates ability to quickly assess situations and use sound judgment in applying medical or emergency intervention techniques. 
  • Courteous when engaged in telephone conversation with staff and the public. 
  • Demonstrates competency in surveillance, prevention and control of infections. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in timely and accurate documentation of client care, and in accordance with SMABHC policy and procedure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, peers, professionals, community agencies and the general public.

Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida driver's license and acceptable driving record if required to drive SMA vehicle and/or use personal vehicle for SMA business. Proof of personal automobile insurance if the position requires you to drive your own vehicle for SMA business (does not include incidental use). Complete State of Florida mandatory level 2 background screening  prior to start of employment if direct contact with children/adolescents, vulnerable adults, or the developmentally disabled may be involved.  Complete Mandt training, CPR, First Aid and AIDS training during the first six (6) months of employment and updated if required.

Physical: Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12 hour day. Able to lift minimum 10 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record client health care needs. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, daily correspondence and presentation, either manually or orally. Work endurance ability to work 8-12 hour shifts with a meal break, as possible. Routine 8-12 hour shifts. Hours and days off may vary. Extra hours may be required. Work assignment locations may vary.
