Essential Job Functions:

  • Monitors government policies and political climates that can affect business strategy.
  • Works closely with SMA's senior leadership to develop SMA's legislative priorities.
  • Works closely with SMA's Advocacy and Government Relations Board Committee ensuring meetings are held at least quarterly.
  • Works with, and provides support to, the advocacy efforts of SMA's lobbyist.
  • Coordinates local Legislative Delegation meetings, including speaker requests.
  • Completes required legislative documents and works with SMA's Marketing Department to develop associated materials.
  • Develops city and county public and/or governmental relationships to position SMA at the forefront in local healthcare initiatives.
  • Coordinates and attends facility tours to assist in the development of relationships with community partners and legislators.
  • Actively participates in business and community organizations to demonstrate SMA's commitment to the community.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with the business community, developing new partnerships in accordance with SMA's strategic goals.
  • Participate in state and national trade association ensuring SMA's interests are considered.
  • Establish SMA as the expert by providing education about SMA's services as well as MH/SUD training as needed.
  • Connect SMA to training/speaking opportunities and when needed conduct those trainings directly.
  • Maximize referrals from the community and associated agencies facilitating continued agency growth.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree in mental health/social work, public administration, communications, sociology, or a related field with a minimum of five years of experience in corporate, non-profit, or governmental organizations. Progressive leadership and management experience is required. Master's degree and executive management experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of SMA's services, locations, and history in the community.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national policy makers who impact SMA's services.
  • Knowledge of all state and federal laws and regulations relating to SMA.
  • Ability to maintain composure in dynamic situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop professional relationships with the persons served, staff, other health professionals, and government officials.

Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida driver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal automobile insurance if required to drive an SMA vehicle and/or use a personal vehicle for SMA business. Complete State of Florida mandatory background screening prior to start of employment. Complete SMA required training during the first six (6) months of employment and updated if required.

Physical: Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12-hour day. Able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record client health care needs. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, daily correspondence and presentation, either manually or orally. Work endurance ability to work 8-12 hour shifts with a meal break, as possible. Routine 8-12-hour shifts. Hours and days off may vary. Extra hours may be required. Work assignment locations may vary.
